Eco-conciousness is in Style!

"Enlarged material powers spell enlarged peril if there is not proportionate growth of the soul. When the external of man's nature subjugates the internal, dark storm clouds begin to form."

- Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. - The World House

Is eco-consciousness a personal statement? Do the choices we make from organic t-shirts to hybrid cabs to biodynamic wine influence others and significantly impact the environment? Join us for dinner, lively Q&A, an exclusive viewing of the fall Ginger Root fashion line, and a book-signing for “By Any Greens Necessary: A Revolutionary Guide for Black Women Who Want to Eat Great, Get Healthy, Lose Weight, and Look Phat.” Registration is required.Tickets are $30 per person and include dinner and biodynamic wine.

Arrive via Metro: Minnesota Avenue Station

Mariessa TerrellThe evening's discussion will be moderated by Mariessa Terrell, Esq. In 2003, Mariessa created Simone Butterfly (Simone), a special division of SBC Law Group dedicated to addressing the unique needs of fashion designers, artists and cosmetic companies. Mariessa’s work with the Deputy Mayor's Office of Planning and Economic Development in Washington, DC involves strategic ways to brand the Nation's Capital as a Fashion Capital, and includes working with the Washington DC Economic Partnership to create a District wide shopping guide, Unique Places that lists top indie fashion purveyors. In April 2007 Mariessa drafted legislation to create a Commission on Fashion Arts and Events in Washington. Mayor Adrian Fenty signed the bill into law in April 2008.

Erin Derge and Kristen SwensonErin Derge and Kristen Swenson are the founders of Ginger Root Design and ReVamp ReWear. The local pair owns Ginger Root Design Boutique and focus on authentic and beautifully curated vintage apparel. They also provide tailoring and design services for men and women- altering the old and creating the new. After realizing how wasteful the fashion industry can be and that we are living in a disposable fashion world, Kristen and Erin concentrated on recycling second-hand and damaged garments whenever possible in their clothing design ReVamp ReWear.
